Celebrating the New Year in technicolour

Rhythm and Alps is the South Lakes’ highly successful two-day music festival, set in the stunning backdrop of Cardrona Valley near Wanaka. Festival go-ers camp for three days and two nights, celebrating New Year’s Eve at a massive, outdoor dance party led by some of the hottest DJ’s and music acts from New Zealand and beyond.

The Brief

After their biggest festival to date in 2015, the organisers recognised that the brand needed to catch up with the growth and influence of the event, so asked Publica to help with a brand refresh. We were thrilled to be asked and can’t wait to check out our work on site this New Year’s eve!

Positioning: On a World Platform

With huge names like Carl Cox, Rudimental and Disclosure entertaining audiences over the years, the festival has a reputation for featuring the best artists; we wanted to raise the branding and communications to reflect the event’s growth and place it alongside other International festivals.

Brand: Attention to Aesthetics

The Rhythm and Alps brand mark is established and well known by event go-ers. Branding had traditionally used only typography and we were asked to refresh and rethink. Our in-house illustrator took inspiration from the mountains surrounding Cardrona Valley and introduced a bright colour palette, as well as creating Buddha style artwork to be used across collateral.

Collateral: Reaching the Audience

The new branding works throughout all communication platforms for the event: web and social media, posters and ticketing. With a strong theme and eye catching illustrations there can be no mistaking the draw of the coolest music event, surrounded by the beauty of the South Island.
